"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved for the appointment of Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Associate Prof. and ED (CAF), ISB, Hyderabad, to the post of Chief Economic Adviser," said a government notification.
The government Friday appointed ISB Hyderabad professor Krishnamurthy Subramanian as Chief Economic Adviser for a period of three years.The post of CEA had been lying vacant since Arvind Subramanaian left the finance ministry after a four-year stint earlier this year. He did his PHD under ex-CEA and ex-RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved for the appointment of Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Associate Prof. and ED (CAF), ISB, Hyderabad, to the post of Chief Economic Adviser," said a government notification.
His appointment will be for a period of three years, it said.
Here are some of the things to know about him.
* He is an IIT-IIM alumnus, having done his engineering from IIT Madras and MBA from IIM Calcutta. He was a class topper at IIM-Cal
*A PHD in Financial Economics from Chicago Booth, he has published works in leading journals like The Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Journal of Law and Economics.
* He did his PHD under the supervision of Professor Luigi Zingales and Professor Raghuram Rajan.
* He is an expert in banking, corporate governance and economic policy, according to ISB profile.
* His work on SEBI expert committee on Corporate Governance and on Governance of Banks panel of RBI earned him much praise and established his standing as one of the top economists in the country.
* He is currently part of SEBI’s Standing Committees on Alternative Investment Policy, Primary Markets, Secondary Markets and Research
* Alongside, he is also part of boards of Bandhan Bank, NIBM and RBI Academy.
* He is employed at ISB as the Associate Professor of Finance (with tenure) and Executive Director for the Centre for Analytical Finance.
* He started his corporate stint with JPMorgan Chase. He has also worked at elite derivatives research group at ICICI Ltd.
* Notable awards include Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, ISB’s inaugural Alumni Endowment Research Fellow in 2014
* He has mentored several students who have gone to join top institutes in the country.
*His writing is regularly featured in the leading pink papers of the country.
