Raj, UP PCPNDT cells nab seven for sex-test

In a joint operation, first of its kind, the Pre-Conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) cells of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh recently smashed two illegal sex determination rackets in the Bulandshahar district.

As many as seven persons, which included three doctors and four middlemen were arrested in two decoy operations conducted in coordination with the UP police.

So far the state PCPNDT cell has conducted 18 inter-state decoy operations.  This is the first time that the Rajasthan PCPNDT cell used local pregnant lady as decoy, local police and civil administration in the operation and handed over  the accused to local police.

Project director (PCPNDT) Raghuvir Singh said that the first decoy operation was conducted at the Solanki Nursing Home at Maman Kalan Road in Bulandshahar in which the hospital owner Dr Gajraj Solanki, his son Dr Dushyant Solanki and two middlemen were arrested.

Singh said Bulandshahar DM Roshan Jacob was also part of the joint operations and for the first time an FIR was registered under 315 IPC section under PCPNDT Act. In the second decoy operation at the Shobharam Hospital at Bhood area in Bulandshahar Dr Brajpal Jat was arrested for conducting illegal sex determination tests. Two middlemen were also taken into custody.

Naveen Jain, an official of the UP state PCPNDT, in a meeting held Singh with recently in Jaipur, said that UP districts, bordering Rajasthan and Delhi have become a hub of illegal sex determination activities. Singh told DNA that it was during that meeting Jain came up with the idea of joint operations so that such culprits can be brought to book.
