Raj Khurana quits as Punjab chief parliamentary secretary

Asserting that he was not involved in any illegal activities, Punjab chief parliamentary secretary (Finance) Raj Khurana today resigned from the post, three days after he was arrested in a graft case.
   
"On the complaint of certain persons a false and frivolous case has been registered by CBI against me," Khurana said in his resignation letter to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal.
   
"I am not involved in any illegal activity, but I am resigning from the post on moral grounds," he said.
   
Khurana, a BJP legislator from Rajpura, is in CBI custody till Tuesday.
   
Khurana and Devinder Singh, an official of Registrar, Firms & Societies and a Chandigarh resident, were arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs1.5 crore for closing a complaint against an association.
   
Punjab Automobile Mechanic Association secretary Manpreet Singh had filed the complaint against the duo.
