Rajasthan Assembly today passed demand for grants amounting to over Rs 524.29 crore with voice vote following a lengthy debate on the matters of police administration and prisons.

Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said that crime graph has reduced in last three years and government has made efforts to curb all kinds of crime in state.

Kataria said that from 2009-13, 24 incidents of riots and 74 incidents of tension had happened whereas in last three years the figure was eight and 27 for riots and tension respectively.

He said the crime particularly in Jaipur commisionerate, Kota city, Pratapgarh and Jhalawar has reduced by 15-20 per cent.

Kataria said that 13,655 different police posts lying vacant have been filled so far while recruitment of 5,500 constables will be made.

New vehicles and bikes were provided for better policing in last three years, he said.

The capacity of jails is being increased too.

Jails which had capacity to house 16,622 prisoners in 2013 has increased to 19,874 through new jails and barracks, he added.
