South and central Gujarat is receiving heavy rainfall over the last two days, with the met department forecasting more rains in coming days.

Monsoon has advanced further in Saurashtra, the department said.

Vadodara, Valsad and Vallabh Vidyanagar are among the cities that have received heavy rains since yesterday.

Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bhavnagar also received showers.

India Meteorological Department warned of "heavy to very heavy rains" in some parts of south Gujarat, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the next five days.

It predicted "light to moderate" rain over several parts of the state during the same period. Barring isolated places, Kutch will remain largely dry, it said.

"An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Rajasthan and neighbourhood between 5.8 and 7.6 kilometres above sea level. An offshore trough at mean sea level runs from South Gujarat coast to Kerala coast," the IMD said.

"The southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of Saurashtra, some more parts of Gujarat region today on 24th and the northern limit of monsoon passes through Dwarka and Vallabh Vidyanagar," it said.

Since yesterday, Vadodara has received 99.6 mm rainfall, followed by Vallabh Vidyanagar and Valsad at 82 mm, Ahmedabad at 30.8 mm, Bhavnagar at 26 mm, Gandhinagar at 24 mm and Rajkot at 10 mm.

Meanwhile, Vithhalbhai Machhi (65) was killed in Dhaiberwada in Gandigate locality of Vadodara late last night, when his house collapsed due to heavy rains, said the fire brigade officer Deepak Gunjal.

The house was very old, he said.

Five trees were uprooted in the city while low-lying areas were flooded.

A report from Vapi in south Gujarat said that two children -- three and five years old -- were killed and their six-year-old sister was injured when wall of a godown in Dungari street collapsed last evening when they were playing.

The deceased kids who were cousins were identified as Hamza Kasim Chaudhary (5) and Sakib Chaudhary (3).
