Rain forecast: Expect heavy to very heavy rains in Mumbai, Konkan, and parts of Maharashtra

People from Maharashtra are set to gear for another day of heavy rains, with the past 24 hours witnessing downpours across the Konkan region, as well as parts of interior Maharashtra and Vidharbha region.

According to Skymet weather, the off shore trough extending along the West Coast will give moderate to heavy rains over South Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. Mumbai will also see moderate to heavy rainfall activity.

The MET Department has issued a five-day weather alert for Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa. The island city has already witnessed heavy rains since Thursday. Nagpur, too, has witnessed downpours with images of waterlogged streets getting circulated across the internet.

Deaths due to lightening were reported from Mankhurd, which is on the border of Navi Mumbao. In Vasai, near Mumbai, one person died on Saturday and a rescue operation was on for 12 others stranded at Chinchoti waterfall

A Central Railways press release came with an update of rain and cancellation of trains. The National Disaster Management authority issued advisories for Assam, Mumbai, Goa, Uttarakhand and others as more rains are expected.  

As per Skymet Weather, on and off heavy rains are expected to continue for another 48 hours. The maximum temperature will be recorded around 29 degree Celsius and humidity around 86%

In the last 48, the city has received around 55 mm rainfall while Eastern and Western Suburbs received 133 and 112 mm rainfall.

Water-logging has been reported at several places including Hindmata in Parel, Milan Subway in Andheri, Kings Circle in Sion and National college area.

As per the disaster cell of BMC, a 3.59 metre high tide is expected today evening

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be heavy rainfalls at a few places in the city. Heavy rains are expected in districts of Thane, Palghar and Mumbai till July 11, which may lead to adverse weather and traffic conditions.
