Rail fare hike to be effective from Wednesday amidst protest by Congress

Wednesday, 25 June 2014 - 12:20pm IST | Place: New Delhi | Agency: ANI

Rail fare hike will come into effect starting on Wednesday across the country. The hike has come in the face of protests from several parties and has also drawn sharp reactions from the passengers.

While the Congress party launched yet another protest in Pune against the hike, passengers too have reacted to the added burden on their pockets.

One passenger told ANI, "What will the common man do? We had lot of hopes from the new government. I am waiting for good days to come."

Another passenger in Jaipur said, "Our pocket will start burning now. It will affect us as there is price rise everywhere. We have lot of aspirations from Narendra Modi."

A passenger in Ahmedabad, however, justified the hike saying, "I think the hike is a right move. This hike was required for the survival of railways. We need proper facilities while traveling. If we need safety and security then this hike was much required."
