Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is set to begin his three-day tour of north Gujarat from Saturday, in what will be his seventh visit to the state since August.

Gandhi will cover Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Patan and Mehsana districts from November 11 to 13, said party officials.

He is slated to land at Ahmedabad airport in the morning and then go to various places in Gandhinagar. He will also travel to Sabarkantha and Banaskantha on the first day.

The Congress leader will address as many as six public meetings over the next three days, besides addressing a number of corner meetings and holding interactions with people, his party said. The target audience will include farmers, tribals, women, and youth.

Gandhi will also visit a number of temples, including the famous Ambaji temple, Thara temple, Vir Megh Maya temple, Khodiyar temple at Varana in Patan, Becharaji temple, and the Shankheshwar Jain temple, as per the schedule released by the Congress.

North Gujarat is an extremely important region for the Congress. Even as its electoral base has steadily declined in other parts of the state in recent years, it has managed to hold on to its support base in north Gujarat. In fact, Congress had won 17 seats in the region in 2012 polls, more than 15 won by BJP.

Gandhi had visited Saurashtra for four days, and central and south Gujarat for three days each. He had visited flood-hit areas of Banaskantha in the first week of August, and attended various events in Ahmedabad in the same month. He had also visited Surat earlier this week on November 8, the anniversary of demonetisation, his seventh visit to the state in three months. He is also expected to campaign extensively in the run-up to the polls.
