Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who was in fray to be the Congress candidate for Uttar Pradesh  before the Samajwadi Party and Congress joined hands, said that she hasn’t yet retired from politics.

In an interview with The Times of India, the former Delhi CM said that she welcomes the alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress. Saying that this was the era of visibility, she praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for being above everyone else when it came to this particular strength. “The BJP does not have a leader for UP. The PM is going there very frequently but everyone understands that he will not be CM,” she said.

Agreeing that there was a political change happening in India, Dikshit also said that there has been a change in political language. “One would not have expected the prime minister to say what he said about Manmohan Singh,” she said, adding that the Congress was adjusting itself in this change of approach, link, language and relationships.

The former Delhi CM also said that age doesn’t allow him to be mature. “He is in his forties. Please give him time,” she said.

Defending her statement despite the fact that Gandhi has been around for many years, Dikshit added that he had come a long way. “He is attending meetings and he is one person who is known to speak his mind. I feel it is good that he is natural but if some feel that it is not so then one develops it on the way.

Dikshit was also full of praise for Priyanka Gandhi and the way she was responsible for sealing the SP-Congress alliance in the state.  “She is a fantastic listener. Whether she will enter electoral politics is a decision that will have to be hers and that of the family. We are all hoping that both Rahul and Priyanka take up positions in the party,” she added.

On her personal political career, Dikshit said that she has had a wonderful innings. “I will not say retirement, for if tomorrow the party gives me a role then you will say I spoke of retirement,” she added.
