Rahul Gandhi, On Wednesday, addressed Congress Workers in Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.
Raising issues of women empowerment, the Gandhi scion, stated, "In India people worship goddesses, address women as mothers/ sisters, but then same people molest women in buses and suppress thier voices. Every woman in India has been oppressed at some point."
Making a subtle reference, Modi-wave'—a phrase that had gained immense popularity during the Lok Sabha elections, he stated, "Just like there was a Tsunami, there will be a Mahila Congress Tsunami soon."
"We see rapes being reported, laws being made, but only laws can't change the society. Change will happen when mindsets change," he added. "We need to change people's thinking and perspectives towards women in India. We need to empower women, give them power, and share their pain."
He advised, "Whenever women think they are being suppressed, they need to hold each others' hand and tell the world we won't be suppressed anymore. We will move forward."
He blamed the NDA government for taking credit for Congress' policies. "Every UPA scheme was aimed at empowering the common man," he said.
