A visit to Dwarkadheesh temple and a bullock cart ride were among the highlights of the day as Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi kicked off his party’s campaign for the Gujarat elections by attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over demonetization and Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Gandhi started his three-day yatra in five districts of Saurashtra by offering prayers at the famous Dwarkadheesh temple in Devbhumi Dwarka. He is undertaking the yatra in a specially-designed bus, but he also took a bullock cart ride for some part of the yatra. Many of the places Gandhi will tour during the course of these three days are dominated by Patidar, a community that is seen as upset with BJP for failing to grant it reservation in government jobs and higher education.

Incidentally, Hardik Patel who is spearheading the reservation stir, sent out a Tweet welcoming Gandhi to Gujarat.

Accompanied by senior party leaders from the state, the Gandhi family scion interacted with villagers at several places, raising lack of enough jobs and farmers’ issues under the NDA government.
