Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday tweeted Central government’s report card on agriculture and gave the Prime Minister Narendra Modi an ‘F’ Grade for his performance in the agricultural sector in poll-bound Karnataka. “Contribution to Cong State Govt’s 8,500 Cr farm loan waiver = 0 Rs,” he tweeted to note the Centre did not compensate Karnataka for its loan waiver. “PM’s crop insurance scheme: Farmers suffer, pvt insurance companies make huge profits,” Rahul said adding “No MSP+50% for Karnataka farmers.” He said the PM has made the “farmers suffer” while filling the coffers of the private insurance companies that have made “huge profits”.
The Congress chief said that the farmers did not receive the additional 50 per cent of their Minimum Support Price (MSP). His remarks came a day after PM accused the Congress of completely ignoring Karnataka’s agriculture sector. “They have been insensitive towards the aspirations of the farmers. The farmers of Karnataka deserve better,” he had tweeted on Wednesday.
Pulling up the Siddaramaiah government over droughts in the state, PM Modi said, “Even if this government had worked just on the water woes in Karnataka, it would not have been staring at a defeat today. Despite the Tungabhadra dam, farmers are not getting water, homes are not getting water... no irrigation policy... but this government just does not listen.”
Countering the accusations Gandhi said, “This election is a contest between two ideologies. On one hand, there’s Congress with its ideology of unity, and an inclusive Karnataka while on the other, we have the BJP-RSS with its ideology of hatred and division.”
