Stepping up attack on the BJP during his Jana Ashirwada Yatra campaign for coming assembly elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday claimed that while the Siddaramaiah government is ending a scam-free term, the BJP had broken "world records" in graft in Karnataka.
"In the last five years there was not even a single scam, and during their (BJP) time there were scams one after the other, from mining to what not, different scams," he said during public meetings in North Karnataka's Koppal district.
During the first leg of campaigning, Rahul Gandhi has chosen to visit six backward districts in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, viz. Hospet, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga and Bidar.
At every public meeting, Rahul reminded the crowd that the benefits they've received so far is due to UPA government decision to amend the constitution to grant the region a special status under Article 371 (J).
The Congress is trying to retain power in the southern state which is among its few prized possessions besides Punjab, Meghalaya, Mizoram and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Gandhi will campaign in three districts of Raichur, Gulbarga and Yadgir on Monday where he is slated to address a tribal rally, two public meetings and visit a temple and a dargah, the party said.
Gandhi will address a tribal rally at Devadurga in Raichur district and two public meetings at Jevargi and Kalburgi in Gulbarga district on Monday.
He is also scheduled to visit the Sharana Basaveshwara temple and the Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, both in Gulbarga, in the evening, said the Congress.
