Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and challenged him for debate on Rafale deal.

Addressing a public rally in Karnataka's Bidar, Gandhi also took a swipe at PM Modi over the story about a tea seller making use of gas from a nearby drainage.

"Modi promised to give 2 crore jobs to youth, now, he says make pakoras... make 'gas from drainage'," said Rahul referring to Modi's chaiwala's jugad story.

Challenging Modi for a debate on the Rafale Deal, Gandhi said, "He will never accept this challenge, as he has been lying to the nation on the deal. Why is he running away from questions?,"

"Modi is not prime minister of the country but of 15 "super-rich businessmen", Rahul alleged.

Rahul also said that he is busy protecting his leaders accused of rapes. "PM Modi did not say even one word on the rapes in UP or the rapes in the Bihar shelter home."

Earlier, Rahul termed Rafale as 'corruption of century'.

"Modiji came to power on the claim that he would wipe out corruption in the country and provide a very clean government. The Rafale scam, involving over 1.3 lakh crores of public money and designed to bail out debt-ridden corporate cronies of Modiji is symbolic of the true ‘sanskar’ of this government – 'Raam Naam Japna, Paraya Maal Apna'," Gandhi said.

The Congress has launched an offensive on the prime minister and his government over the Rafale deal, alleging favoritism in granting the offset contract to Reliance Defence, in violation of the rules and has accused Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of "lying" to the nation on the issue.
