Launching a no holds barred attack on the government, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the government of giving an open leeway to Amazon, Ambani and crony capitalists. Challenging Anil Ambani to slap any number of defamation notices against the Congress, Gandhi alleged that Ambani opened his company a few days before getting the Rafale contract in spite of having no experience in building aircraft and despite being in a debt of Rs 45,000 crore.
Gandhi also accused the government of lying for saying that the price of Rafale may seem higher than the UPA deal but is in fact 20 per cent cheaper as the government negotiated for a fully operational and weapon loaded aircraft.
Producing a copy of the India-France joint statement, Gandhi said, "It says, listen carefully, that the aircraft and associated systems and weapons would be delivered on the same configuration as had been tested and approved by the Indian Air Force."
"This point that the configuration will be the same is written in the joint statement signed by the PM. But the PM is saying something else. Does this mean that the person who gave this statement sitting alongside Hollande (former French president) was not Narendra Modi? When it is clearly written that it is going to be the same configuration means that this man is lying," Gandhi said.
Replying to finance Arun Jaitley's blog in which he dubbed Gandhi of indulging in a 'kindergarten debate' on the Rafale deal and asked him 15 questions, Gandhi said, "He has the liberty to ask more questions. But I gave him an option to ask questions in a joint parliamentary committee. It will lay bare what happened in Rafale deal. Nobody has any objection then why not hold a JPC?"
Equipped with fresh RBI data revealing 99.3% demonetized currency notes are back, Gandhi directly accused PM of carrying out demonetization to help Amazon establish business in India and to serve the interests of a coterie of his 15-20 crony capitalist friends.
"All the demonetised currency is back. The GDP is down by 2 per cent. None of the stated objectives have been achieved. Now, PM Modi needs to answer why did he hurt India so badly?" Gandhi said.
"It is a clear case. PM Modi wanted to help top 20 crony capitalists who had huge NPAs. From one hand he took away the money from the pockets of small businessmen, workers, housewives and farmers through demonetization and gave it to his crony capitalist friends," he added.
