Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's political shenanigans are not going to be limited to Lok Sabha or his home turn in Uttar Pradesh for long. The one-time wrestler is all set to display his hold and snatch expertise in politics on celluloid.

The 'muhurat' of the film simply titled 'Netaji' (a fond reference to Mulayam), which sketches the life and times of the SP chief, was performed here on Wednesday. Netaji's younger brother and UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav released a poster of the film on the occasion.

"The film will focus on Netaji's trials and tribulations from his humble beginnings in the small non-descript village of Sefai in Etawah to his achieving the stature of a national level politician," says the director Vivek Dikshit, who himself hails from Etawah, and has been a keen observer of the rapid growth in Mulayam's stature over the years.

Mulayam's role is likely to be essayed by Rahul Bose, while Naseeruddin Shah has been approached to play Yadav's 'guru' Ram Manohar Lohia. The film would include real-life footage of Mulayam, too.

Shivpal Yadav was visibly chuffed as he told reporters: "It's a moment of pride for all of us that Netaji would now be seen on the big screen. He has struggled all his life as a true socialist, and truly deserves this honour."

The shooting of the film is expected to begin soon, and most of it would be done in UP for obvious reasons, those involved in the making of the film shared.
