On Tuesday, Radhika, Rohith Vemula’s mother denied claiming that a cheque from the Indian Union Muslim League had bounced.  Referring to an article published on an online portal, she claimed the article was spreading ‘misinformation’.

She was quoted saying by News 18: “No cheque bounced, it was rejected due to an error. I have no problem with them [IUML]. They have given me an advance of Rs 5 lakh for land and promised me Rs 10 lakh more after Ramzan. I will campaign for anyone who is against the BJP. The article is spreading wrong things.”

According to a report in The News Minute, days after Rohith Vemula’s suicide the IUML had promised his mother Radhika Rs 20 lakh to build a house for the family, who stay in a rented house.

Radhika was quoted saying by TNM: “When Rohith died, I was just crying in the velivada and I had no idea about all the people coming and greeting me. At this time, these party members came from Kerala and said they had heard the news and learnt that we were absolutely poor.”

However, IUML leader D MK Muneer promised that the party would stick to its words. He was quoted saying by ANI: “If the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has given their word, we will stick to it. I heard the news that a cheque of Rs 20 lakh that was given to Rohith Vemula 's mother bounced. This has not come to the notice of any of our leaders yet.”

Reacting to the article, Sambit Patra said: “This is saddening!! Politics over the dead.. Instalments yet to be paid.. It seems while some were eying for gains over an unfortunate Suicide, Truth was the biggest looser!!”

She had slammed the IUML saying: “In such a context, how can use they make promises and use it for political gain?”

She also said that claimed that one of the two cheques given by the party had bounced. The party had called it a clerical mistake.

Vemula's suicide in January 2016 had triggered a nationwide protest.
