A contractor, two senior officers, and four retired officials have been booked by the Punjab vigilance bureau for alleged irregularities in allotment of tenders in the irrigation department in the past eight years.

Disclosing this here today, a bureau spokesman said a criminal case had been registered against contractor Gurinder Singh, and others yesterday.

Vigilance teams which conducted searches at various places as part of the investigation, found the contractor had amassed huge wealth and acquired more than 30 properties worth Rs 100 crore illegally in Chandigarh, Mohali, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Noida, he said.

In this case, Gulshan Nagpal, executive engineer, Paramjit Singh Ghuman, chief engineer (Retd), Bajrang Lal Singla, executive engineer, Harvinder Singh, chief engineer (Retd), Kaminder Singh Deol, SDO (Retd), and Gurdev Singh Minah, chief engineer (Retd) have been found misusing their official positions in criminal conspiracy with Gurinder, in causing huge financial loss to the state government, he said.

He said the bureau found that in the last seven to eight years, senior officers of irrigation department have misused their official positions and in connivance with Gurinder by twisting rules and regulations, not adhering to the prescribed procedure for e-tendering, by making tailor-made terms and conditions for e-tendering to benefit the contractor.
