An extensive search operation was conducted by Punjab Police in the Dera Baba Nanak area after a woman claimed to have spotted a man moving suspiciously with a weapon. "A search operation was carried out by the police near Shikar Machhian (in Dera Baba Nanak) village here," Batala SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon said today. He said a woman had yesterday claimed to have seen a "man wearing black clothes and carrying a weapon moving in a suspicious manner".

"We immediately launched the search operation which went on during the night as well as today," Dhillon said. The police used hand-held thermal imaging devices to trace any suspicious movement in the civil areas, the SSP added.

"However, we have not found anything suspicious so far," he said, adding that the police were acting "immediately" on any information regarding any suspicious movement. "We are considering information on suspicious persons very seriously," the SSP said, adding that the security personnel were on "high alert" in the backdrop of escalating tension between India and Pakistan.

Yesterday, the BSF personnel at Chakkri Border Out Post (BOP) in Gurdaspur sector had opened fire after spotting a suspicious movement along the International Border (IB). A couple of days ago, an extensive two-day search operation was carried out at Pathankot following inputs about suspicious movement of armed men in army fatigues.
