While the Jawaharlal Nehru University is contemplating the idea of installing a battle tank in the university, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be bringing this idea into reality on Wednesday when it will be installing a T55 battle tank in the campus.

According to the authorities of the university, the university is getting the tank as a gift from the Indian Army.

It is a Russian battle tank which has played a key role in 1965 as well as 1971 Indo-Pakistan wars. The tank will be installed in the premises of the Defence and strategic studies department of the university on Wednesday.

"The general officer commanding in chief of southern command Lieutenant General PM Hariz will be present at the time of the installation of the tank," University officials said.

The vice chancellor of the JNU had given a proposal of installation of tank in the premises of the university to instil a sense off patriotism among students. The idea had received lot of criticism on why a battle tank should be installed in a university.
