Angry over being told to get a haircut, an 18-year-old student attempted to murder two teachers of his junior college with a sharp weapon inside the college campus near Wagholi on Ahmednagar road on Friday.

The student, identified as Sunil Bhor, fled after the attack.

The incident took place on the campus of Jogeshwari Mata College in Wade Bolhai area at around 8 a.m. on Friday. According to police, two teachers of the college, Dhananjay Abnave and Darshan Chaudhary, have sustained serious injuries. Following the attack Lonikand police have registered a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of Indian Penal Code against Bhor. Police have also filed charges under the Atrocity Act for making casteist remarks against Abnave.

Sub-Inspector Annasaheb Tapare, who is investigating the case, told DNA, "Sunil studies in the 11th standard in the same college and Abnave is his class teacher. Sunil had grown long hair and a couple of days back, Abnave had asked him to get a haircut."

"On Thursday, after having a haircut, Sunil came to the college wearing a cap. Seeing him wearing cap, Abnave asked him to remove the cap if he wanted to attend classes. Instead of removing the cap, Sunil chose to leave the college premises and did not attend the college on that day."

On Friday morning, all the students of the college had gathered on the college grounds for morning prayers but Bhor was not present. "After the prayer, all the students were going into their respective classes and Abnave was keeping a watch on them. When most of the students had gone inside the classrooms, Sunil entered the college carrying a sharp weapon with him and attacked Abnave," Tapare said.

When Abnave collapsed due to the sudden attack, Chaudhary tried to save him but was also attacked by Bhor. "He made some castiest remarks against Abnave before fleeing from the college premises," Tapare added.
