Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate from Pune took everyone by surprise not just by winning the Pune Municipal Corporation's seat, but also by losing nearly 60 kg weight, reported Mid Day.

Sayali, who completed her post-graduation in political science from Vimalabai Garware College, contested on the NCP ticket from Warje Malvadi area (ward no. 32). She lost 60 kg by rigorous campaigning in the span of three months and also won the election with 13,956 votes.

Sayali is the daughter of late MNS MLA Ramesh Wanjale, who was famously known as the 'gold man'. Wanjale died in 2011 after cardiac arrest. Wanjale's wife Harshada had joined NCP in September 20111.

"My father wanted me to join the civil services and also handle the two schools that we run. But, politics is in my blood, and I wanted to take his legacy forward. He was my idol," she said.

"I weighed 116 kg and wanted to be healthy and fit for this new role. I started following a proper diet and hit the gym," she added.

During the election period, Sayali was campaigning from morning 8 am to night 9 pm and would take the staircase instead of elevators.

Sayali now wants to work towards rehabilitating slum dwellers.
