On the day of his wife's birthday, a city based real estate businessman was shot dead in the parking lot of his building in posh area of Prabhat road on Saturday night. Two unidentified assailants fired five rounds of bullet at the businessman in front of his son after which they managed to flee from the spot.

Deven Shah, the 57 year old businessman who owned Ambika land ventures, a firm deals with buying and selling of plots was residing in lane number seven of Prabhat road area with his family. The incident took place at around 11 pm on Saturday night. It was his wife's birthday on Saturday and the Shah family had just returned home after celebrating her birthday in one of the hotels in Baner area when the attackers struck.

According to the police, two assailants came on a two wheeler and they walked into Shah's building after parking the two wheeler outside. They approached the watchman of the building of who also runs a laundry business in the parking lot of the building. The attackers asked him to call Shah downstairs or threatened to beat him. Scared watchman went to his house and informed about two unidentified men asking for him after which he and his son Atit came down in the parking lot.

According to the statement given by his son to police, Shah did not sensed any danger to his life and he thought he would see who were those men who were calling him and therefore he came down to meet them while Atit accompanied him.

Additional commissioner of police Ravindra Sengaonkar said, "After the father and son came down to meet two unidentified men, they asked who was Deven Shah among them. Deven introduced himself to them and when Atit tried to talk to them, they asked him to stay out of their conversation."

"When Shah asked them to sit on one of the benches in the parking lot, they started walking towards the bench. However, they would have walked only ten feet, when one of the attackers, pulled out a pistol and fired at Shah from very close range. The bullet hit him in his chest after which he ran towards elevator but meantime, another attacker also opened fire at him. Both the attackers fired five rounds of which two hit Shah," Sengaonkar said.

After firing at Shah, both the attackers ran towards the main gate. Shah's son also ran behind them to catch them but they pointed pistol at him due to which he had to take a back step. After both the attackers rode away towards Bhandarkar road, Atit took his injured father to a private hospital where he succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Police are now gathering CCTV footage of the area to get clues of the attackers. They suspect that the attacker might have killed Shah over some dispute of land deal. "The attackers had not covered their faces and they were talking to each other in Marathi language. One of the CCTV cameras have managed to caputered their images. We are using that footage to identify the attackers and we have got some clues about them," Sengaonkar said.
