The man who was suspected to have carried one of the four bombs that exploded in Pune and was injured has been identified as a local tailor, the city's Police Commissioner Gulab Rao Pol said.

Dayanad Patil, 34, was admitted to Sassoon Hospital by the police between 7.45 and 8 pm. Patil has emerged as the prime suspect in the blasts. A local resident, Patil works as a tailor in Junglee Maharaj Road.

NDTV had earlier tweeted, "Injured person being treated as a suspect..we want to know why he was carrying a packet: Home Secretary RK Singh"

Doctors treating Patil said that he has injuries in three places, one being a superficial injury below his belly, a 2x1 cm injury on his chin and burns above his eyelashes.

He is currently conscious and told the doctors "I had left my tiffin and water bottle bag at the agitation, after a few minutes I went to take my bag and leave. After walking a few steps I realized the bag was heavy and so I opened the bag to check it. Before I could completely open the bag, it blasted."

The blast was low intensity so his eardrums are not injured. He has been declared stable. The doctors will be sending Patil’s reports to the ATS in Mumbai.

Pol said that "from the low-intensity blasts, we think there is no involvement of terrorist group. There may be other groups which are not related with terrorist activities", he said.

Asked about the possible motive behind the blasts, he said "the intention was to make mischief and create panic in the mind of the public".
