On the day a charred body of third terrorist was recovered from the debris at the encounter site in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid issued a public appeal urging the local youth to give up arms and assured their rehabilitation in the best possible way.

Two local terrorists — Jahangir and Kifayat — of Zakir Musa group were killed in the gun-battle at Bahmnoo village on Monday. The third was killed after 24 hours encounter and his badly charred body was recovered from the debris on Tuesday.

Six security personnel were injured in the encounter. Five houses suffered extensive damage in the 24-hour-long encounter. Security forces are still clearing the debris to find out if there is any more body of terrorists lying underneath.

Soon after the gun battle was over, Director General of Police SP Vaid appealed to the youth who have joined militancy to shun the path of violence return to their homes and has promised to provide all possible help including vocational training for their rehabilitation.

"During the past 27 years about 25,000 youth, including those who had gone for arms training to Pakistan have either surrendered or left the path of militancy and are leading a normal life. I appeal to the parents of these youths to impress upon their wards to return home," he said

The DGP also promised them all possible help. He said vocational training will be provided to those who shun the path of violence.

The appeal comes a day after police said 54 youth who were involved in militancy-related activities were arrested and saved from moving further on the path of violence in the last few months.
