Puducherry assembly polls 2016: Election campaign ends tomorrow

Puducherry has around 9.43 lakh voters and 930 polling stations, out of which 148 have been identified as vulnerable.

Poll campaign by political parties and others should come to an end at 6 pm on Friday in Puducherry, which goes to polls for the 30 member Assembly on May 16.

Chief Electoral Officer of Puducherry V Candavelou told reporters on Friday that the election department has made all the necessary arrangements in connection with the election.

A total of 5,382 staff have been drafted for election duty while 1027 student volunteers would be deployed for the Real Time Poll Monitoring System (webcasting). Candavelou said that 79 micro observers have also been drafted in the context of the election. He said that the Union Territory has around 9.43 lakh voters and 930 polling stations, out of which 148 have been identified as vulnerable.

The CEO said as much as Rs 5.85 crore cash had been seized so far after the model code of conduct came into force last month and Rs 4.35 crore had been released after verification of documents.
