The Madras High Court on Wednesday issued notice to Tamil Nadu government and urged the state to provide protection to statues of all leaders and ensure law and order in the state.
The court ordered the state government to ensure that there should not be any breakdown of law and order in the state and provide utmost security to the school children.

The court issued the notice after hearing a PIL filed by advocate Surya Prakasam. The public interest litigation was filed a day after the provocative Facebook post by BJP leader H Raja was shared on social media on the statue of social reformer EV Ramaswamy known as Periyar.

Around four people have been arrested in connection to the statue vandalising incident in Vellore, the Tamil government told Madras High Court while hearing the case on Wednesday.
On March 5, the two statues of communist icon Vladimir Lenin were brought down in South Tripura.
Soon after the incident, BJP leader H Raja posted omn Facebook saying: “Who is Lenin? What is his connection to India? What is the connection of communists to India? Lenin’s statue was destroyed in Tripura. Today Lenin’s statue, tomorrow Tamil Nadu’s EVR Ramaswami’s (Periyar’s) statue.”
However, after the controversial post which threatened to take down statues of 'Periyar', the statue of Dravidian movement leader EV or Periyar was razed in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
Two people were arrested for allegedly vandalising a Periyar statue at a municipal corporate office in Tamil Nadu's Vellore. Both the accused were reportedly in an inebriated condition.
After backlash and much criticism for his post, the BJP leader said that it was posted in his page without his approval and permission. Soon, after the post was deleted from his account.
PM Narendra Modi expressed his disapproval at spate of statue desecration incidents reported from parts of the country. He has spoken to Home Minister Rajnath Singh in this regard. The Home Ministry on its part has issued advisory to all states. In its advisory MHA said, " MHA has asked the states that they must take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents. Persons indulging in such acts must be sternly dealt with & booked under relevant provisions of law".
