The probe in to the case of hacking of official twitter accounts of Indian National Congress (INC) and party's Vice-President Rahul Gandhi has led Delhi Police's Cyber Cell to Internet Protocal (IP) addresses in five different countries.

The Delhi Police will now write to the server heads of these countries to identify the people behind these addresses.

The accounts were being operated from the United States (US), Romania, Canada, Thailand and Sweden. Twitter confirmed that the two accounts were not accessed by the main server of INC media operation in Bangalore, on November 30, 2016 from 9.15pm-to 9.30pm, and on December 1, 2016, from 10.30am.

The Delhi Police will now write to these five countries, asking for the details of the users. If the details provided prove to be unsatisfactory, the police will issue a Letter of Retreat (LR) to the competent courts in the five respective countries, seeking more details. The history details of the Congress server are yet to be obtained.

Gandhi's twitter account was hacked on November 30, the party's official account was hacked the very next day. The accused then posted a series of derogatory tweets on the accounts.

Meanwhile, sources said it would be very difficult to trace the exact location of the hackers as it is their common modus operandi to jump IP addresses and show their presence in different countries.
