Priyanka Gandhi clears dues on Lodhi Estate bungalow after govt issues notice to vacate

The Central Government had cancelled government accommodation allotted to her and asked her to vacate the house within one month.

Congress General Secretary Incharge of East UP Priyanka Gandhi has cleared her pending dues for the government accommodation at 35, Lodhi Estate in Delhi after the central government asked her to vacate it as she was no longer protected by the Special Protection Group (SPG).

The development was confirmed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

"Ms Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has made online payment of balance amount due on her. Hence, now dues as on 30.06.2020 is nil against her," a spokesperson from the ministry said.

On Wednesday, Gandhi was asked to vacate her Lodhi Estate bungalow after living there for the past 23 years. The Central Government cancelled government accommodation allotted to her and asked her to vacate the house within one month.

As per government records, Gandhi has accumulated dues of Rs 3,46,677 as on June 30. She has been issued notice to clear these dues and rent for the period she vacates the accommodation.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in its communication dated June 30 said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been assigned Z+ security with CRPF cover on an all-India basis, which does not have any provision for allotment or retention of government accommodation.

She was allotted Bangalow No 35 in Lodhi Estate on February 21, 1997, on security ground as an SPG protectee.
