Private firms to run 5 stadiums in Delhi

Union minister of state for sports, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said this on Friday while in Jaipur for promotion of MUDRA scheme of the union government.

In what could be a departure from traditional way of developing sports infrastructure in the country, five stadiums in Delhi will be given to private companies for operation.

Union minister of state for sports, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said this on Friday while in Jaipur for promotion of MUDRA scheme of the union government.

He said that sports is included in the list of fields where funds alloted for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be utilized. Therefore it has been decided that five stadiums will be operated making using of such CSR funds.

Rathore pointed out that these days, sports is no more a mere sport but has become a platform of delivery social message. In an example of how companies are helping develop of sports, Rathore informed about a company which has taken 50 youth to Germany for them to pursue special training in their field. He added that other states should also think about implementing this move.

Earlier in the day, he made a sudden, unplanned visit to city's Vidhyadhar Nagar stadium and was not satisfied with the facilities being provided there. He inquired about the coaching facilities and was surprised to know that the coach did not have details of the coaching schedule.

He was however happy to find women players, especially those that were married, practising on field and pursuing their craft. "Hats off to their fire and spirit," he said in appreciation.

He later tweeted about his surprise visit to the stadium and also expressed his dissatisfaction, along with posting pictures about his visit.
