Udaysinh Undalkar, the son of seven-term Congress MLA Vilaskaka Patil Undalkar (currently a rebel who fought this election as an independent candidate) from Maharashtra  was on Saturday acquitted by the Satara District Court in wrestler Sanjay Patil's murder case.

However, two accused Hamid Sheikh and Sagar Parmar have been held guilty, while 10 other  have been acquitted

Sanjay Patil, winner of the Maharashtra Kesari title, was shot dead in a market in Karad (Satara district) by two assailants on January 15, 2009.

According to the prosecution, Udaysinh had given a supari (contract to kill) to another accused to kill Sanjay as he had fought in the Karad Agriculture Market Committee’s elections against Udaysinh’s father in 2008 and won.

The verdict of the court has given relief to Vilaskaka Undalkar, who contested October 15 assembly poll against former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.

After snapping ties with Congress in the run up to the October 15 Maharashtra polls, the Sharad Pawar led NCP decided to support Congress rebel Vilas Patil Undalkar against Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan from Karad South assembly constituency.
