Delhi: Principal and four others arrested in connection with six-year-old's death

Delhi Police on Thursday arrested Sandhya Sabu, Principal of Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj and four others in connection with the death of six-year-old Divyansh Kakrora, who was found in a pit under the amphitheater on the school premises on January 30.

The class I student of the prestigious Ryan International School was found near a water tank on the school premises. He was immediately rushed to the nearby Spinal Injuries hospital where he was declared dead. Initial postmortem reports suggested the boy's death was due to drowning. Though the boy was declared dead just after noon, the police were informed a couple of hours later.

The police officials from Vasant Kunj (North) in the southern suburbs of the capital, were conducting investigations over a period of the week and have questioned school authorities, students and the parents of the child. During their investigation, it came to light that, Kakrora had a habit of quietly disappearing from class on various occasions.

Apart from the principal, Kakrora's class teacher Minakshi Kapoor (38), and school staff Yogesh Kholiya (23), Puran Singh Bisht (65) and Ram Narayan (44) have also been arrested. Merely hours after they were arrested, all five were released on bail by a local court. They have been charged under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that deals with death by negligence and if convicted carries a sentence of up to 2 years. Though, the child's parents approached Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and requested a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, the government has so far ordered a magisterial probe.
