One would have expected the First Lady Michelle Obama to make most news for her famous fashion sense on the day of US President Barack Obama's visit to India. However, what took everyone by surprise was the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's frequent and quite stark apparel changes.

Narendra Modi's outfit changes did rounds all over the social media on Sunday with people discussing how he was beating the fashion icon Michelle Obama with three outfit changes in a day.

The PM greeted the First couple wearing a kurta-pyjama with a Nehru vest and a vibrant orange stole. However, Modi's pinstriped bandhgala suit stole the show on Sunday. Now one would wonder what was so special about the suit? Well, it had the PM's full name 'Narendra Damodardas Modi' inscribed on it over a thousand times!

What seemingly looked like a normal dark blue, pinstriped suit which Modi wore during his famous interaction chai pe charcha at the Hyderabad House with the US President turned to be an outfit with the Prime Minister's name printed all over the suit in tiny block letters.

However, the Indian Prime Minister is not the first on to put such a show of his name in this manner, the former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has already walked down down the same path in a very similar suit with his name printed on his outfit too.

However, Modi's choice of outfit left many disappointed on the social media. One of the Twitter users said, "While 'Modi Kurta' might have been interesting, 'Modi Suit' feels annoying," Congress spokesperson Sanjay Jha took a dig, tweeting, "If it is true that Modi's suit has his name embroidered, it is a first, and shockingly narcissistic, the self-proclaimed master of hype."

Modi had his share of defenders too. "That's his personal choice media morons. Did anyone ask what journalists wear?," said one user. Another noted, "Well Mubarak didn't have media morons to deal with! Poor Modi can't even wear what he wants to without media doing a commentary."

Modi's long-time tailor said the suit was specially made for Obama's visit. "We were told that he had loved it because it was something exclusive," said the Gujarat state-based designer who has worked closely in designing Modi's wardrobe since 2001. The tailor declined to be named. Obama's three-day visit to New Delhi has already yielded plans to unlock billions of dollars in nuclear trade and to deepen defence ties, steps the world's two largest democracies hope will establish an enduring strategic partnership.

India's leader has long been known for his flair for fashion, often sporting short-sleeved versions of the kurta, the Indian knee-length loose shirt. The look has become so popular that the "Modi Kurta" has
become its own label in India.

Obama himself lauded Modi's style at a state dinner held on Sunday in New Delhi, comparing it to his wife's sartorial elegance. "So he's tough. And he also has style," Obama said. "One of our newspapers back home wrote, 'Move aside, Michelle Obama. The world has a new fashion icon."
