Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand on the occasion of the National Sports Day. The day marks the birth anniversary of the hockey legend.

Prime Minister Modi said, "Our tributes to the legendary Major Dhyan Chand on National Sports Day. His determination & dedication towards sports continues to inspire. We salute all our sportsmen & women who have been enhancing the pride of the Tricolour by their exemplary performance on the field. Congrats to the sportspersons who would be honoured with the various National Sports Awards today. India is proud of them."

Dhyan Chand, known as 'The Wizard' for his playing abilities, was a central member of the Indian hockey team that won the gold medal in the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Olympics.
