President Ram Nath Kovind, on Saturday, appointed five new Governors -
- Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.) as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh
- Banwarilal Purohit was appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu
- Satya Pal Malik as the Governor of Bihar.
- Professor Jagdish Mukhi was appointed as the Governor of Assam

Banwari Lal Purohit was appointed as the new Tamil Nadu governor, since Maharashtra governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao had additional charge of Tamil Nadu. This is the first time that the state has got a full time governor after K Rosaiah retired in August 2016.

However, hours after the appointments were announced, Tamil Nadu's Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) expressed its dissatisfaction. Speaking to media, DMK Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson TKS Elangovan said, "Governor is going to act according to the wishes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I don't think there will be any change in approach."

Banwari Lal Purohit was earlier appointed as the Governor of Assam by the President on August 17, 2016. He has been a thrice elected member of parliament from Nagpur, twice on the Indian National Congress's ticket and once as a BJP member.

Meanwhile, Satya Pal Malik was appointed as Bihar Governor. The former MP and BJP's national vice president, took over the post that had been vacant since Ram Nath Kovind was nominated as the BJP's presidential candidate.

Further, Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd.) was named the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, while Professor Jagdish Mukhi was appointed as the Governor of Assam and Ganga Prasad as the Governor of Meghalaya.
