Puducherry Chief Minister designate V Narayanasamy on Saturday charged the previous government in the Union Territory with not doing anything for its progress and said his government would make all efforts for the welfare of the people.

Speaking to reporters at Chennai after calling on DMK leader M K Stalin, he said when he was Minister of State, he had brought various developmental activities to the UT like good educational institutes, built 17 bridges, got funds (from the Centre) for implementing various schemes, including drinking water projects.

But for the last two years after BJP came to power at the Centre, the Union territory had not received any funds, he said.

Narayanasamy alleged that the previous government had not made any effort for the growth of Puducherry. The people were looking for growth, particularly in sectors like construction and industry. "The Congress-DMK alliance will work for all-round growth of Puducherry," he said.

The Congress leader said he has invited Stalin, Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi and DMK Leader Ponmudi for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government on June 6.

"Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mukul Wasnik will also be there in the function," he said.

Asked if his cabinet would have members from DMK, the alliance partner in the Union territory for the May 16 assembly polls, he said it would be decided by Congress leadership and DMK Chief M Karunanidhi.
