Congress MLAs in Arunachal Pradesh who revolted against Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Sunday has welcomed the Union Cabinet recommendation for imposition of President's rule and said they were ready to form an alternative government with the support of BJP and others.
The Congress Party on Monday dubbed the government's move to recommend President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh as 'unconstitutional' and alleged that it exposed the dictatorial tendencies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his people.
According to some reports, Arunachal Pradesh has been placed under President's Rule on Monday and President Pranab Mukherjee signed the order on Sunday night, after it was recommended by the cabinet.
Whereas, some reports also suggest that the government has been asked to explain why it has recommended President's Rule.
"President Pranab Mukherjee has reportedly asked the home ministry to explain the need for central rule in the northeastern border state," reported NDTV quoting sources.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to meet the President in the afternoon.
Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said, "The party is set to challenge in court the Union Cabinet's recommendation for imposing President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh, if it is assented to by the President.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit accused the Central Government of playing with fire in a 'sensitive'border state. "It is completely condemnable and unconstitutional. The Congress has majority in Arunachal Pradesh and, therefore, the Prime Minister, BJP MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and local BJP leaders are trying to destabilise the government there," Dikshit told ANI.

The reactions from political opponents were sharp. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had expressed "shock" at Cabinet's recommendation for imposition of President's rule in Arunachal Pradesh, terming it as "murder" of the country's Constitution. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah alleged that Raj Bhavan were being used "again to unseat elected governments by encouraging defections".
Meanwhile, Congress leader Kapil Sibal had said the Congress would challenge the order for imposition of President's rule in court.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who is an MP from Arunachal Pradesh, on Sunday had said BJP has no intention to form the next government in the state saying it was upto the MLAs to decide the future course of action.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prakash Rajkhowa said the Article 174(1) of the Constitution was violated as such there was no assembly session for six months preceding January 21. Gherao and blockade of Raj Bhavan and the Governor, who is a nominee of the President, by some Congress MLAs amounted to Constitutional breakdown in the state.
