President Pranab Mukherjee condemns Assam militant attack, calls for putting down with firm hand

Condemning the killing of innocents by the banned outfit National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday said that such acts of terror must be put down with a firm hand.

"#PresidentMukherjee strongly condemns killings in Assam, says such acts of terror and violence must be put down with a firm hand," said the President's office tweeter handle.

33 people were killed on Tuesday evening in attacks by NDFB in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts of Assam, following which indefinite curfew has been imposed in five police station areas of Sonitpur district.

According to reports, the State Home department has instructed the administration of all the districts to remain alert.

The world heritage site, Manas National Park has also been closed for three days in a bid to intensify operation against militants.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh have also condemned the attack.

Rajnath Singh will also be visiting the state later today, in order to take stock of the situation.
