The convention will be held at Varanasi and afterwards participants will visit Prayagraj for Kumbh Mela on January 24 and witness the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi on January 26.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the mega event. The three-day event will attract many eminent personalities of Indian origin from world over. Speaking to media in New Delhi, General VK Singh said the first day will be dedicated to the youth.

On January 21, the meet will open with Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in partnership with Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports. On this day, the Valedictory Address will be delivered and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards will be conferred by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will be the Chief Guest of the convention while Himanshu Gulati, Member of Parliament of Norway, will be the Special Guest, and Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Member of Parliament of New Zealand, will be the Guest of Honour at the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 21, 2019.

In New York, a big India parade happens in August. Our diaspora sends a lot of money to us. It has an indirect impact. The kind of outreach we build from events like Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas only increases with time."

Uttar Pradesh government will also organise the state's Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019 on January 21, 2019.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated on January 9 every year to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development of India. January 9 was chosen as the day to celebrate this occasion since it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest pravasi who led India's freedom struggle and changed the lives of Indians forever, returned to India from South Africa.

The conventions are being held every year since 2003.
