Senior Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan wrote to prime minister Narendra Modi on Friday, seeking removal of the chief of Central Bureau of Investigation Ranjit Sinha, in wake of his controversial meetings with corporate officials and politicians.

Bhushan wrote a four0page letter to Modi, saying, "I request you to kindly intiate process of his removal from the post of the director of CBI under section 4 (b) 2 of Delhi Special Police Establishment Act and also intiate aprropriate disciplinary and criminal proceedings against him."

In his letter Bhushan has named some of the famous people, who are under scanner of various investigating agencies including CBI and were regulars at Sinha's official residence.

"Ketan Desai, former MCI chairman who was arrested in a corruption case, Vijay Darda, Moin Qureshi, Subodh Kant Sahay, Sunil Bajaj and some others visited Sinha's residence," Bhushan wrote. He urged the prime minister to take the action urgently, "so that the dignity of the post which Sinha is occupying could be restored and also the important corruption cases, which are being handled by the CBI under his supervision, could be saved from getting derailed."

While reffering to changing statements of Sinha since the time the facts abouts his meetings were reported, Bhushan wrote, "Mr Sinha got the CBI to issue a statement that these revelations are a lie and no such entry register exists. Later, he issued a statement that this tantamounts to an invasion of his privacy and he would sue the NGO, which has raised this issue before the Supreme Court in a PIL, for perjury. And then he issued a statement that some entries in the register are genuine while the others are forged. Finally he again changed his statement and stated that there is nothing wrong in meeting the accused. Then again, in an interview. he has stated that he was meeting these people because you need a thief to catch a thief."

Bhushan also reffered to Sinha's alleged attempts to influence Reliance case in 2G scam and Aircel Maxis case involving former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran.
