The Income-Tax department's appraisal report on alleged hawala operator Moin Qureshi indicates that he has illegal operations with several individuals, including CBI director Ranjit Sinha, claims Prashant Bhushan in an application moved on behalf of NGO, Common Cause, before the apex court on Thursday.

Bhushan sought direction to the Centre to produce the appraisal report in the court.

"According to information from trustworthy and reliable sources, the report also covers in some detail the dealings of Qureshi with CBI director Ranjit Sinha," the application said.

Bhushan cited the content of the June 11 letter by the Director of Income Tax to the Director General of Income Tax (Investigations) on their probe against Qureshi in alleged hawala dealings.

According to the plea, Qureshi has been under extensive investigation and his premises have been raided by the I-T authorities and several important documents and his computers have been seized.

The Director of Income Tax(Investigations -II) addressed a letter to the DGIT (Investigations) seeking extension of time for submission of an appraisal report in respect of the electronic information gathered during the raid, the plea said.

Dna, in an expose, had reported that Qureshi met Sinha at least 90 times in the past 15 months at 2 Janpath – his official residence. He seems to have been family friends with Sinha's as Qureshi's wife, too, has visited the CBI chief's residence sometimes.

The NGO's plea is likely to be taken up for hearing on Friday by the bench of Chief Justice R M Lodha, who has already sought Sinha's response for his meeting with the coal block-accused.

Bhushan sought Sinha's recusal from the case and also a SIT probe against Sinha for allegedly protecting the accused in coalgate.
