More trouble is brewing on Aditya Birla group. On the day when a special CBI court summoned its chairman along with former prime minister Manmohan Singh, advocate Prashant Bhushan filed a plea before the Supreme Court seeking thorough investigation into the alleged bribe paid by it to politicians of various ministries to obtain coal mines.

In its plea Bhushan, who is a petitioner in the coal block allocation scam case in the apex court, said during the investigation in coal block allocations to Hindalco Industries Ltd, conducted by CBI in October 2013, CBI had recovered cash of Rs25 crore from its corporate office and incriminating documents.

He referred to the Birla Diary, which revealed payment of Rs7.08 crore under the head of "Project-J-Environment and Forest" between the period January 9, 2012-February 2, 2012.

Bhushan pointed out that the tenure of former Congress leader Jayanti Natrajan as environment minister, 13 projects of Aditya Birla group were cleared between November 8, 2011 and June 17, 2013.

"As per newspaper reports, the operation in Mumbai allegedly reveal massive bribery of politicians and officials of various ministries by Aditya Birla group over several years and Income tax authorities had sought CBI to share the documents with it for further action," Bhushan said.

"Direct CBI and ED to thoroughly investigate the Aditya Birla Group's alleged hawala transactions, money laundering and bribery," the plea said.

Bhushan also raised the issue that Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report has pointed out that Reliance ADAG company was allowed to divert the coal which was meant for its Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in Madhya Pradesh.

Seeking a probe into it, Bhushan said the captive coal block was allocated to the company at a concessional rate but it was allowed to divert coal for other purposes which is illegal.
