In a unique first post demonetization, the Delhi Police has cracked a fake Indian currency notes racket wherein the accused were printing fake notes of Rs 2,000. Investigators said that they have arrested three persons for allegedly being involved in scanning, printing and circulating fake currencies as 18 lakh rupees were recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as 36-year-old Azad Singh, 37-year-old Manoj and 37-year-old Sunil, who are residents of Delhi and Haryana. Police have also seized fake currency notes worth Rs 28 lakh in denominations of Rs 2,000. Besides the cash, a Scorpio car, a motorcycle and three mobile phones were also seized from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off received on January 27, a team of police located a car at a traffic signal in Narela late on Friday. Azad Singh, who was in the car, delivered two packets, each having counterfeit notes worth Rs 8 lakh, to Manoj and Sunil. An additional Rs 2 lakh were also seized from him. "The entire amount recovered of Rs 18 lakh was fake and in denominations of Rs 2,000. The recovered notes were actually scanned and printed but resembled real notes," police said, adding, a case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

While Azad Singh has been identified as the mastermind of the racket, Sunil and Manoj were assigned with the job of circulating the fake currency. Investigators said that both Manoj and Azad have a liaison with the 'bookies' and they supplied a huge amount of fake currencies to hawala dealers and 'bookies' charging Rs 40,000 original currency for Rs 1,00,000 lakh in fake notes.

Both Manoj and Sunil are school dropouts and previously accused, the police said. Further investigations are underway.
