While the Central government on Friday clarified that it had no role in the CBI raids against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, the Opposition said the law enforcing agencies were 'captive puppets', acting as 'dirty tricks department' for the government to seek revenge against political opponents.

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the Central Bureau of Investigation was doing its duty and acting in accordance with the mandate given to it by law. He denied having any link to the case. He added that earlier CBI was not allowed to carry out an investigation which changed after NDA government freed it of political interference.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala targeted the government for using the CBI to seek revenge against political opponents. He, however, added that law should take its course in an impartial manner. He said the BJP and CBI need to answer certain fundamental questions regarding the case, such as why there was an inordinate delay between the case that dated back to 2014 and the lodging of FIR in 2017. He added that as failures of the BJP-led government are getting exposed, it is doing such things to shift the focus to opposition parties.

NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar said that the BJP-led central government was using CBI to harass the opposition. "It is a well thought out strategy to harass the opposition by using CBI and other central agencies to frame its leaders in false cases," he said.

On the other hand, former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said Lalu Prasad Yadav is bearing the fruit of his actions and behaviour. "CBI has done a good job by conducting the raid, but anything can only be predicted once the results of the investigation come out," he said.

Manjhi targeted Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and said that he is ready to let go such serious crimes for remaining in the post of CM.
