Things are heating up politically in September, with several political parties scheduling events in the coming month across the country. From the Bharatiya Janata Party to the Congress to the Communist Party of India-Marxist, all parties have concerted campaigns and events coming up in the month, deepening their efforts ahead of a crucial election year.

The ruling BJP, paying their obeisance to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will continue to hold events in his memory in September. This include programmes called Kavyanjali, poetry evenings at over 4,000 places, in his memory on September 16, a day which will mark a month of his death. On that day, recordings of the poetry of Vajpayee will be made available to the public.

Events in all the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha sections of the country, too, have been planned. From September 17, which is prime minister Narendra Modi’s birthday till September 25, which is the birth anniversary of Jana Sangh founder Deen Dayal Upadhyay, the party will commemorate the week as a memorial to Vajpayee.

“We celebrate birth anniversary of Modiji as ‘Sewa Diwas’ on September 17. This time, we have decided to observe ‘Seva Saptah’ in the country till September 25, the birth anniversary of Deendayal ji,” BJP president Amit Shah told reporters on Thursday.

BJP workers, who generally celebrate PM Modi’s birthday usually, will this year set up medical camps in slums and villages in over 20,000 locations, carrying out check up, immunisations with a special focus on pregnant women and children. Workers will also create awareness among people about the features of Ayushman Bharat programme.

The Congress, on the other hand, will continue with their offensive on the Rafale deal, carrying out press conferences in 90 cities and towns, and cadres of the party’s state units will carry out ‘Jan Akrosh’ agitations across the country. Several other womens and farmers groups have also planned to hold protests during the month.

In addition to that, the CPI(M) plans to carry out rallies to highlight farmers and peasants issues.
