Armed with fresh facts and statements of key witnesses in Sunanda Pushkar murder case, Delhi Police is now probing movements of her husband and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor before she was found dead at a hotel in Delhi last year.

Special investigation team of Delhi police probing the case has once again questioned the staff members of the five star hotel, where Sunanda was found dead in a room under unexplained circumstances on January 17, 2014.

Police took almost a year to register the murder case under section 302 of IPC, which has turned murkier, due to its high profile nature and delayed investigations. Even union home minister Rajnath Singh had to clarify on Thursday that the police were not facing any political pressure in the death probe. "Police is conducting an impartial inquiry," he said.

Sleuths who are investigating the case are now probing 'where all did Tharoor go and who all did he meet' on January 17 and a few weeks before that. And he is likely to be questioned in connection with the case soon. On January 17, Tharoor also attended the AICC meeting after which he returned to the hotel room, where Sunanda was found dead. Tharoor was then, minister of state for human resources development in UPA-II government.

The police has already questioned personal staff of the former union minister, who reportedly revealed that the marriage had turned sour as the couple fought regularly over different issues. A brief twitter spat of Sunanda with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar for her alleged relationship with Tharoor exposed the strained relationship between them.

Tharoor praises Modi gesture

Shashi Tharoor, a prolofic writer, praised prime minister Narendra Modi for latter's gesture of congratulating him after winning the Lok Sabha elections, saying he did not expect him to reach out after their "nasty" spat.

"I was surprised when Mr Modi tweeted congratulating me after winning the election as frankly, apart from the fact that Mr Modi had not shown much conciliation to any of his opponents before that, he and I had also clashed almost directly and explicitly earlier when he said something about my wife and I responded both on twitter and television and there was a perception that - to put it bluntly - I had won that particular exchange. I haven't been forgiven for having won that exchange," Tharoor said during a talk with writer and journalist Sandip Roy to promote his book 'India Shastra: Points of View' at Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival on Thusday.
Tharoor also claimed there was a backlash post his criticising Modi.

"I had said that Mr Modi was attempting to reinvent himself into an avaatar of modernity and progress just by his speech. This had created a huge backlash and beginning of my trouble with my own constituency of Indian liberals," he said.

Tharoor, however, added he is impressed by Modi's gesture to reach out and congratulate him. Tharoor spent a good out of the time given to him to blast the media. "I have been misquoted in media, being defamed now day in and day out," he said."
