The victim had lodged a complaint of domestic violence against her husband on May 1.
Police have arrested the businessman husband of former India team cricketer Chetan Chauhan's niece, Richa Shukla, from a Delhi hotel on Thursday on charges of domestic violence, police said. The accused, Sandeep Shukla was arrested by Kanpur police team on Thursday from Hyatt Regency Hotel in Delhi, they said.
"Sandeep was arrested in Delhi today and has been brought to Kanpur now. He would be produced before the magistrate after undergoing a medical examination," Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur said.
The victim had lodged a complaint of domestic violence against her husband on May 1. An FIR was filed, on the basis of a complaint by Chetan Chauhan alleging domestic violence, against Sandeep and his friends at Shuklagunj police station on May 1, IG Ashutosh Pandey had said.
In her complaint the victim had alleged that Sandeep had brutally beaten and drugged her on April 30, which she relayed to her parents. When her parents informed Chetan Chauhan about the incident, he alerted the police.
But by the time police reached the residence of Sandeep Shukla in Unnao district, he had fled in his car taking the victim along. Richa jumped out of the car, on 80 feet road and was discovered in an unconscious state by onlookers who then reported the matter to the police.
The victim was rushed to the Medical College hospital and treated there, police said. On the basis of Richa's complaint of domestic violence an FIR was registered at Shuklagunj police station, but since she was rescued and treated in Kanpur, another FIR was lodged under the Nazirabad police station, SSP Mathur said.
They tracked his mobile phone down to Delhi, and soon after a team was dispatched to Delhi, which arrested Sandeep from a five-star hotel. The victim's parents had also pressed for the investigation to take place under the Kanpur Police, following which the second FIR was filed under the Nazirabad police station.
"The victim's parents had written a letter to the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police requesting that the probe be conducted by Kanpur police. They met me and made the same demand, after which we registered a case under the Nazirabad police and initiated the investigation," SSP Mathur added.
