Police halt 'tractor march' against land bill at Delhi border: Yogendra Yadav

A day before its scheduled rally to Parliament, Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan-led Swaraj Abhiyan's 'tractor march' as part of its ongoing farmers' movement, that began from Punjab, was "stopped" by police at the Delhi-Gurgaon Kapashera border. Yadav claimed that Delhi Police personnel did not let around 200 tractors from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to enter the capital despite having the requisite permission. "& now starts the Tamasha by government! Police not letting our march move inside Delhi. Even though we have had the permission since July 8," (sic) Yadav tweeted.

A spokesperson of the group said they were stopped by police at around 4.30 pm after passing through Nuh, Sohna and Badshapur. The farmers then staged a two-hour-long protest. 

Earlier, the march, part of the 'Jai Kisan Andolan' launched to protest "anti-farmer" steps such as the Land Acquisition Bill, made its way through various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh after being flagged off at Sangrur on August 1.

The protesters later entered Delhi on foot and have gathered at Jantar Mantar. They plan to put up an installation in front of the Prime Minister's residence tomorrow as a symbol against the Delhi Race Course, which they want to be converted into a farmers' memorial.
