Police crack 2015 gold shop robbery case in Vizag

Bheemili police today claimed to have cracked a 2015 case, wherein robbers made away with a booty from a gold shop in Tagarapuvalasa area, by nabbing three accused of the 13 member gang.

Earlier on January 1, this year police had arrested five members in Jajpur district in Odisha. They were brought to Vizag on transit remand. The total number of arrests in the case now stand at 8.

The five arrested were identified as Sarangi Pradhan (the main kingpin of the gang), Dasu Srinu, Karunakar Sabat, Anant Sahu and Prabin Nikim. The three who were arrested today were identified as Bimmo Pradhan, Eswar Pradhan and Rajapu Venkatesh. All are natives of Purbakota village, Jajpur district of Odisha.

Police have also recovered 1.33 kg gold, 7.5 kg silver and Rs 1.8 lakh in cash from the arrested trio.

DCP (Crime) T Ravi Kumar Murthy, said main accused Avula Subba Rao is still at large.

Murthy said, the robbery had taken place when the owner of the jewellery shop, opened it at around 9 AM and put the bag containing 6 kg gold ornaments on sales counter and went to anteroom to check on certain things.

Noticing that, three members of the gang, who had earlier conducted a recce, entered the shop and made good with the bag, said the DCP.

"We got a concrete clue in the case recently and we came to know that Avula Subbarao, who hails from Narsipatnam and was earlier involved in a double murder case is involved in the robbery. Nine teams were deployed to investigate the case and finally eight of them have been arrested," said Murthy.
