PM opens world-class centre for crafts

Sources in Mini PMO in Varanasi confided to the DNA that the Prime Minister had taken personal interest in the designing and interiors of the centre.

The Deendayal Hastkala Sankul, a trade facilitation centre-cum-museum for handicrafts, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi on Friday, is one of country’s state-of-art world-class centre.

Spread in sprawling 43,445 square metres at Bada Lalpur, the centre-cum-museum was constructed at a cost of Rs 305 crore in record time in less than two years. The PM had laid the foundation stone for the same on November 7, 2014 and the construction work was started a year later on November 27, 2015. The first phase of the centre was completed and dedicated to Varanasi weavers in December, 2016 and final phase on September 22, 2017.

Sources in Mini PMO in Varanasi confided to the DNA that the Prime Minister had taken personal interest in the designing and interiors of the centre. He had deputed one of his trusted officers to ensure its construction within stipulated time as per specifications envisaged by him, keeping in mind the carpet, silk saree, handicrafts, glass bead, wooden toys industries in his constituency. 

“He had engaged a US firm for designing the building and its interiors. Three engineers and interior designers from the US stayed in Varanasi for months to oversee the designing and interiors of the Centre,” pointed out a local BJP leader attached with the Mini PMO in Varanasi.

The BJP leader pointed that he had promised that all projects he had laid foundation stone will be inaugurated by him only.
